How to properly maintain your Honda Civic engine

If you want your Honda Civic to serve you for many years and not cause you problems, you need to treat it responsibly - to monitor and maintain in excellent condition. The engine, as the most complex part of your Honda Civic, requires the most attention.   • Oil Changes: Most cars require an oil change every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, or every 6 months to a year.
  • Oil filter: Change the oil filter every time you change the oil in your vehicle.
  • Timing Belt: Timing belts should generally be replaced every 60,000 to 100,000 miles or every 5 to 7 years, whichever comes first. It's important to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for timing belt replacement, as failure to replace the timing belt in time can result in serious engine damage.
  • Timing Chain:Timing chains generally last longer than timing belts and do not require replacement at regular intervals. However, they do require regular inspection as part of routine maintenance to ensure that they are operating properly and not excessively worn. If a timing chain shows signs of wear or damage, it should be replaced promptly to avoid engine damage.
  • Air Filters: The engine air filter should be changed every 15,000 to 30,000 miles, or every 2 years. The cabin air filter should be changed every 15,000 to 25,000 miles, or every year.
  • Fuel filter: Change your fuel filter every 30,000 to 50,000 miles or every 2 to 3 years, whichever comes first.
  • Coolant: A general guideline is to replace the coolant every 30,000 to 50,000 miles or every 2 to 5 years, whichever comes first.
  • Battery: The battery should be inspected every 6 months and replaced every 3 to 5 years.
  • Belts and Hoses: Hoses and belts (e.g alternator belt or power steering belt, not to be confused with a timing belt) should be inspected every 25,000 miles and replaced if they show signs of wear or cracking.
